Collection: Iron Rust - Dragon Kiln wood-fired Jian Zhan

Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using exceptionally high iron-content local clay and naturally iron-saturated mineral glaze. Fired in a Skyward Dragon Kiln (Tongtian Longyao) through prolonged wood firing, where extended flame travel, heavy ash interaction, and sustained high-temperature reduction create an extreme firing environment.

The elevated iron content drives strong phase separation within the glaze during reduction. Iron-rich phases migrate, aggregate, and re-crystallize across the surface, forming rust-toned coloration ranging from vivid persimmon red to deep ember hues, accompanied by silver or metallic crystalline structures.

Within the Iron Rust category, persimmon-red iron rust represents a more demanding firing outcome. It requires precise control of reduction timing and thermal balance, with significantly lower stability compared to standard iron-rust surfaces.

The resulting surface combines dense mineral texture, metallic luster, and layered iron coloration. Each piece reflects a unique balance of heat, ash, and reduction within the kiln, formed through process rather than deliberate patterning.
