Where the infinite void gives birth to luminous pearls of light.
Void Pearl exemplifies one of the most technically demanding effects in Jian Zhan firing: the controlled emergence of pearl-like crystalline clusters upon a dark obsidian glaze. Each formation appears suspended in the void, evoking constellations scattered across infinite space.
Achieving this surface requires an exact equilibrium of firing temperature and atmosphere. Too much reduction or oxidation obscures the crystal growth; too little, and the glaze remains inert. The result, when successful, is a surface of profound contrast—darkness structured by luminous, iridescent pearls.
The vessel itself is weighty and full-bodied, emphasizing its presence as both a functional tea bowl and a collector’s specimen. Light activates the glaze in shifting layers: silver-blue crystals reveal iridescent halos, and clusters arrange themselves into cosmic networks that no two pieces replicate.
Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, with local iron-rich clay and naturally iron-bearing mineral glaze.
