Empyrean represents the highest level of collector-grade Jian ware offered by The Phoenix Kiln. Developed through years of research and experimentation, this TPK Exclusive series is the artist’s attempt to recreate the distinctive oil-spot glaze effects of the Southern Song Dynasty Jian bowl designated as a National Treasure of Japan and preserved at the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka.
Wood-fired in the traditional hundred-meter Skyward Dragon Kiln, Empyrean is distinguished by its exceptionally iron-rich clay, containing over 14% iron. The demanding firing process yields an extraordinarily low success rate: fewer than 1% of all pieces entering the kiln are successfully fired, and only approximately 0.3% meet The Phoenix Kiln’s selection standards for premium collector-grade pieces.
Fully handmade from native clay and mineral glaze sourced from Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, China.
A traditional wooden stand finished with natural urushi lacquer is included.
