A Jian Zhan from the Harelith glaze series, wood-fired in the 100-meter Skyward Dragon Kiln of Jianyang, Fujian. In this large mountain dragon kiln, prolonged flame travel, oxygen variation, and airborne ash interact continuously during firing, guiding the movement of iron within the glaze.
The surface presents an uncommon kiln transformation where a shell-like mineral crystalline field merges with fine hare’s-fur streaks. A soft green mineral background forms first within the glaze, while delicate radial iron lines develop during cooling. The result is a layered crystalline structure created by natural iron migration and mineral interaction inside the glaze.
The clay body fires to a dense purplish-brown tone characteristic of Jianyang’s high-iron clay. The final surface reflects the combined effects of kiln atmosphere, mineral composition, and natural glaze flow—conditions that cannot be fully controlled or repeated.
Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using locally sourced iron-rich clay and natural iron-bearing mineral glaze.
