A flow-driven iron-rust glaze formed through prolonged wood firing, where molten movement and localized transformation shape the final surface.
Fired in a 100-meter Skyward Dragon Kiln, this piece undergoes extended exposure to flame and ash, allowing the iron-rich glaze to enter a highly active molten state. As the glaze moves and settles, the exterior develops a dense rusted texture, while the interior reveals variations in melt behavior, with fine particulate formations emerging over a dark glaze pool.
Such results arise from continuous fluctuation in temperature and atmosphere during firing. The interplay between movement, cooling, and iron crystallization produces a surface that remains inherently variable and non-repeatable.
Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using local iron-rich clay and naturally iron-bearing mineral glaze.
