DewDaisy is a Cha-Mo (tea-dust type glaze) Jian Zhan formed through traditional dragon-kiln wood firing in Jianyang, Fujian. During firing, variations in flame path, ash interaction, and kiln atmosphere influence how iron crystals emerge and settle across the glaze surface.
Within the DewDaisy series, the formation of yellow-green crystalline structures over a deep pure-black glaze base is particularly difficult to achieve under traditional dragon-kiln wood firing. The interaction between iron-rich glaze, kiln atmosphere, flame movement, and temperature variation determines whether this distinctive crystalline structure can successfully emerge during firing.
Only a limited number of DewDaisy pieces were successfully produced with this glaze characteristic, and no further stable firings of the same effect have been achieved since. As a result, the existing DewDaisy works remain among the most limited tea-dust glaze pieces within The Phoenix Kiln collection.
This DewDaisy gongfu tea cup presents a dense and continuous surface crystallization across the glaze, with a natural concentration toward the center. The structure is well-defined and stable, representing a fully developed Cha-Mo (tea-dust type) glaze formed under traditional wood firing.
Compared to typical pieces of this type, the crystallization here is more continuous across both interior and exterior surfaces. The hand-thrown form creates a distinct tonal band along the outer wall below the rim, resulting from localized glaze flow and accumulation, giving the piece a more structured glaze profile.
Fired in a traditional dragon kiln, the glaze developed through natural mineral interactions under fluctuating kiln atmosphere. The result reflects the inherent variability and non-replicability of wood-fired Jian Zhan.
Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using local iron-rich clay and naturally sourced mineral glaze.
