A kiln-transformation structure defined by a concentrated central reaction zone and radial diffusion through layered iron-rich glaze under high-temperature wood firing. The firing process produces a stable contraction at the center, where glaze and body interact under peak heat, followed by gradual outward transitions formed through shifting oxidation–reduction conditions within the kiln.
Rather than surface crystallization alone, this piece reflects a combined mid-to-deep glaze reaction, where mineral composition, flame path, and thermal gradient collectively shape the internal structure. The result is a coherent transformation pattern that reveals the behavior of iron-based glazes under prolonged, high-intensity firing cycles unique to large-scale dragon kilns.
Handmade in Shuiji Town, Jianyang, Fujian, using native iron-rich clay and naturally occurring mineral glaze.
